Name the Future
“Does language change behavior when you describe what you are building with greater precision?”
01
The Shift
Vague language about intentions ('I want to get healthier,' 'I want more freedom') is easy to say and hard to act on. Precision may change what becomes actionable.
02
The Experiment
- Take one vague intention you currently hold and rewrite it in specific, concrete, falsifiable language.
- Say the precise version out loud to at least one other person this week.
03
Now Go Live It
- Notice whether the precise version changes what you do differently, compared to how the vague version sat unexamined.
04
What Did You Notice?
- Did precision reveal that the intention was smaller, larger, or different than the vague version implied?
- What happened when you said it out loud to someone else?
05
Why This May Have Happened
Vague language lets a person avoid confronting whether an intention is real or aspirational. Precision forces a decision: pursue it, revise it, or admit it was never actually a priority.
06
Take This With You
Precision is not certainty. You can speak precisely about something you are still investigating.
